Oh, really? Not because the doctor says ” the two eyes can’t be separated” ? That’s y, he needs to give out 2 at once.
If not the above reason, to me the author just doesn’t care about the feeling of the girl ! and the boy just doesn’t balance his inner love( in & out)

Don’t understand? Ok…
1. The author doesn’t care about the girl feeling? If you love s.o., how hurt you are when you see (let say she) her in bad condition? Won’t you say that ” It’s better for me to die instead of seeing this situation?”. To me, the girl may live unhappyly or regretfully for the rest of her life, as she happens to know that a man she really loves is in such condition.
2. The boy doesn’t balance his inner love ( in & out)? To what I know from “Tuesday with Morrie”, One of the best things in life is ” to give out loves and to let them come in ” ! In and Out should be balanced. In this case, he just gives out too much, which even makes others feel remorseful because of him. He might think that it’s good and his responsibility to help person he loves. He mistakenly thinks that if she is in good condition ( not blind) she may live happily. In fact, live with good feeling is much better than live with good-physical condition.
Anyways, it’s just my idea and my feeling … If I were the girl, surely I whould feel this … hurt…
